October Surf Coaching Weekend – Best Time to Surf
Make the Most of Autumn and Improve Your Surfing
Our last Newquay surf coaching weekend of year provided us with some perfect waves for improving. We had a mixed ability group with everyone showing improvements come the end of the two days. This time of year is becoming an increasingly popular time to surf here in Newquay. With less crowds, warmish water and great waves you can’t beat a weekend getaway on our little coast of dreams.

Surf Coaching Lessons in October
October is our favourite time of year here in Newquay. Consistent swell means you are guaranteed to get some solid sessions under your belt. We love coaching at this time of year as we can rely on those autumnal swells to provide a great variety of waves for all abilities. You are likely to see some impressive surf during you stay whilst having the peace of mind that there are different options available when it comes to types and size of waves. Our ideally located surf school means we can assess the surf on the day and choose which beach will be best to use. For example this weekend we had some chunky conditions down at Fistral Beach including some “Cribbar” action whilst around the corner at our sheltered bay Towan Beach we had some clean 2-3ft waves. We really are lucky to have this selection of waves on our doorstep.
The famous Cribbar loves to pop in and say hello during the autumn.
Local Knowledge – Surfing Tuition
This weekend we had the luxury of surfing both Fistral and Towan beach. It gave the crew a chance to try different waves and push themselves to their limits with some testing conditions. Our surf coaching weekends are not only designed to help people improve surfing but also supply that crucial local knowledge of finding the best breaks to surf and what times to surf them.
Empty waves can be found anywhere along this coastline. You just need to know where to look!

Weekend leader Jorrin Massingham had some fun too!
Key Areas of Surf Coaching
With close quarters tuition the group were able to make key adjustments to their surfing after each wave. The use of video and photo analysis meant bad habits were soon a thing of the past and everyone was catching more waves as well as some longer rides too. From general positioning on the board, trimming style and turning, a broad range was covered during the two days.

Surf Retreat in Cornwall
We can’t wait until next spring when our Newquay surf coaching weekends will resume. Cornwall offers that perfect escape and getaway where the stresses of life are literally blown away. The beautiful landscape, chilled out atmosphere and amazing company really does make for a perfect little break. On our latest weekend some of the crew had chosen to make the most of what Cornwall has to offer by booking onto the weekend as part of a birthday celebration. With a group of like-minded folks our weekends are always a great laugh. On the Saturday evening we shared a few beers whilst enjoying Fistral Beach Bar’s finest pizzas and reminiscing over the day’s waves.

Winter Surf Lessons and Schedule
Our surf school doesn’t close for winter. We are open all year round offering private or group surf lessons. Many people choose to make the most of the small crowds and consistent swell and book on to a winter lesson or two during the chilly months. With our super warm wetsuits and heated changing rooms, there is really no excuse not to tune up your riding even if it is snowing outside! We do offer some warmer climates during the winter as well. Our surf coaching holidays are fast approaching and through the months of November, January and February we visit a whole host of tropical and exotic destinations including, Morocco,Nicaragua and Costa Rica. You can’t beat surf tuition where perfect waves and weather are a thing of the norm. Take a look at our website to see all our destinations!
Thank you to everyone who joined us this year on a surf coaching weekend in Newquay. We hope to see you soon be it here in Cornwall or a more tropical location afar 😉
