Autumn here in Cornwall goes hand in hand with a change in the weather and of course, fingers crossed, good surf. The weekend’s surf prediction forecast waist to chest-high waves, light winds and a mixture of sunny spells.
As the campers assembled on Saturday morning all was as expected and as ever a quick introduction and overview of the weekend was needed before jumping into some wetsuits and heading on down to Fistral Beach.

Surf Assessment Session
Saturday morning started with classic conditions for improving on or beginning your surfing career with the group’s surfing ability split between first time surfing, surfed once or twice and upper intermediate. With vastly mixed skills in the group the first session was very important for the coaches to see what areas of surfing needed improving and where.

Improving YOUR Surfing
From harnessing the pop up to improving board positioning on the wave face everyone caught waves and with ISA coaches on hand and our photographer capturing the moment all angles were covered.

With all of the Surf Boot Camps video and image analysis is a fundamental part of the coaching weekend, allowing surfers to see for themselves what is and isn’t working for them.
After a cracking day’s surfing everyone was more than happy to settle into some good food, a couple of drinks and share some stories of the day past.
Day two
After a hearty meal and a few drinks at the local beach restaurant, the campers awoke to high tide and calm winds and the promise of some cracking Cornish waves later in the morning.
After a quick classroom review of the previous day’s session it was on to the beach for an out back master class.
The morning session was a beginner’s paradise, with small clean waves showing themselves and as the tide dropped we were quick to pounce and make the most of the conditions.
With the sea all to ourselves for the first half of the session the campers had a great time with many catching and surfing their first ever green wave.
Surf Camp – Good Vibes!
With any Surf Boot Camp you’re amongst like-minded surfers enjoying the laughs only groups can offer and, of course, within this the coaches will always aim to take campers to the next level delivering further techniques to individuals as and when it’s needed.
All in all the weekend was a great success with everyone making new surfing friends and learning new techniques, all wrapped up in a creative coaching environment. Then, with the promise of future weekends and adventures to come, it was time to head home.
Many thanks to all involved that made it down. Until next time!
